About the Artist

Eileen Sprague grew up in New York City where she was exposed to great works of art through the gift of living in a metropolitan area. Eileen is a graduate of New York University and has done post graduate work at Hunter College and Sedona Art Center.

Her love of sculpture blossomed when she studied under the late well-known sculptor, Alfred Van Loen. Moving to Woodstock, New York, gave Eileen the opportunity to have her own studio and further develop her art through classes and private instruction.

She has exhibited at the Long Beach (NY) Museum of Art and Woodstock Artist Association, and has been a featured artist on cable Channel 18's "In The Spotlight" program in Arizona, where she was living at the time.

Currently Eileen resides in San Diego. Her work has been exhibited at the Del Mar Art Center; the 101 Gallery in Encinitas; the Carlsbad-Oceanside Art League; as well as at the world-famous Del Mar Fair. Her sculptures and paintings are in the private collections of Mr. & Mrs. James Graif, Mr. Miles West, and Ms. Tina Hazarian.

Her sculptures are primarily of marble, alabaster, onyx and bronze, and her paintings are predominantly oil on canvas.

In her own words:

I have always been a tactile person, so it is fitting that my first love of art was sculpture. Visits to museums in New York City, my place of birth, found me in rooms containing large marble sculptures. Being able to touch them and feel the smoothness and contours connected me to the artist in a profound way.

Having the opportunity to work with several well-known artists, and living in an artist community, both in Woodstock, New York, and Sedona, Arizona, exposed me to different mediums; hence my ventures into painting, gourds and other expressions of art. I feel that the world is my playground and that my art is constantly evolving. I hope you enjoy the expressions of what I feel is an organic process.
